"The Governor-General of the Kingdom of Apples"

Zoubir ADDOU

I am originally from the Rif, a region often marginalized in Morocco due to its history of resistance and defiance. Though I grew up far from the Rif, this identity has remained an undeniable part of me—a force I once tried to suppress but that continuously resurfaced, shaping my experiences and often challenging me.

As a Moroccan-American artist, my Rif heritage is an identity I once struggled to fully embrace, yet it has always been a source of inspiration that refuses to be silenced. Through my art, I navigate the tension between tradition and modernity, blending ancestral motifs with contemporary techniques. This process allows me to reclaim and celebrate a cultural legacy often overlooked, transforming it into a powerful narrative of resilience and self-discovery
